Is AI Coming for Your Job?
Will you need to fight a robot this decade or no?
I saw it first hand. At my last job, a financial tech company which jumped on the AI bandwagon back in early 2023, we stopped hiring software engineers. As Timothee Chalamet playing Bob Dylan probably said: “The times, they are a changing. AI is coming for your job.”

Why did my old company stop hiring engineers? Well, simply put, it was because our small team learned how to use AI to multiply engineering production and output. A team of three engineers could now get as much work done as a team two or three times that size.
I worry we, as a nation, are not prepared for the shifting job landscape. Not to freak you out, but AI is taking jobs. That is a fact. It is happening faster than we can comprehend. So what jobs are most at risk and how can you prepare?
At-risk jobs:
Jobs that are repetitive and predictable
Your industry is focused on “automating” as much as possible
Your company’s job descriptions now include AI related skills
Jobs that don’t require complex human judgment
What can you do?
Understand if and how AI is being implemented in your industry
Learn how AI works and become AI-literate
Furthermore, if you can’t beat them join them. Learn how to use AI in your job to make yourself more powerful and effective at work
Update your resume, start networking, and understand what opportunities you may need to pursue if you are the victim of an AI-layoff.
Is AI all bad? No, I think in the right context AI is going to be amazing. But I do think we need to be realistic about its dangers and downsides. This is an issue that’s going to affect young and old, blue and white collar, and all industries from coast to coast. Don’t freak out, but also don’t ignore it (this is also good advice for any weird moles growing on your body).
AI actually wrote this newsletter — JUST KIDDING. I do my own terrible writing, thanks.
